The People

Philip GRUHL  -  The founder, creator, and inventor behind BehaviouralReading who naively saw reading as simply another activity and wondered what all the fuss was about. Only after looking a bit deeper did he realize that his view of reading was unique which provided an insight into how others learn to read in a new and simple way

Paula SHILLINGTON  -  The FIRST PIONEER who saw the unique skills in Philip when he was instructing her son. Paula took some messy pages, concept sketches and vague wafflings and created the very first series of workbooks that are still used today!

Justine BUTLER -  is our illustrator. An architect and keen distance runner, she has a passion for illustrating childrens media and generously gave of her time to bring the BR characters and its messages to life.

Louise TYQUIN  -  A Speech Pathologist in private practice and wife of Philip. Her dedication and innovation to the field of Speech Pathology saw her present at Speech Pathology Australia conferences in the middle 1990's promoting private practice and assisting others to get established when it was a tiny fraction of the industry today. Her special interest in literacy saw her develop and refine techniques and methods within the area of phonological awareness in a clinical setting from as early as 1995 when it was at the cutting edge of research. At this time, Louise also saw the limitations of these methods and began to look outside the square enlisting the skills of other disciplines to seek solutions for her clients. A journey which began in 1995 and still continues to this day.

Philip MUNCE  -  Our first IT professional whom has a special talent for project design and implementation. As a team player his belief in what BR has to offer the broader community has fueled his desire to create a potent intervention tool but with an even greater vision to empower other inventors the world over

Ben BUCHAN  -  The second of our IT professionals. 'Bundy' is an amazing coder for whom solving the impossible is second nature. Having a software solution that can be streamed live over a thin and poor quality internet connection thereby making it truly accessible the world over was one of his visions.  Bundy and Muncey were also tough masters to Philip Gruhl. By refusing to program POD but giving him a platform to program it himself has empowered the idea that the inventor can create the end product. It also proved to them that this medium could be duplicated for others with goals to innovate the world over.

Yavanna GROGAN  -  Joined the team after recognizing the unique nature of this project. A speech pathologist whom had recently completed a research masters in a closely associated field was very aware of the current limitations in the academic and clinical settings when repatriating poor literacy. Upon seeing BR/POD she immediately recognized the game changing nature of the project. Yavanna also brings an innovative business mindset with a second qualification as a chartered accountant.
